Batista is set to star in an upcoming Netflix zombie film that drops next month.
Former WWE star Dave Bautista, better known as Batista, will be the centerpiece of an upcoming Netflix film set to launch on May 14. The streaming giants released a trailer for inbound zombie thriller Army of the Dead on Tuesday. The film is directed by Zack Snyder, with the likes of Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Raul Castillo and Nora Arnezeder among other stars.
The trailer shows Batista getting contracted to pull off a heist that appears to go really sideways when his team stumbles upon hordes of dead folk (and a tiger) that aren’t quite dead. The undead aren’t supposed to be a total surprise as the movie’s events take place after a zombie outbreak that cut Las Vegas off from the rest of the world. Batista is asked to infiltrate the quarantine zone and extract $200 million from a vault before the government levels it with explosives. You could check the trailer out below.
The plot reads:
“ARMY OF THE DEAD takes place following a zombie outbreak that has left Las Vegas in ruins and walled off from the rest of the world. When Scott Ward (Dave Bautista), a displaced Vegas local, former zombie war hero who’s now flipping burgers on the outskirts of the town he now calls home, is approached by casino boss Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada), it’s with the ultimate proposition: Break into the zombie-infested quarantine zone to retrieve $200 million sitting in a vault beneath the strip before the city is nuked by the government in 32 hours. Driven by the hope that the payoff could help pave the way to a reconciliation with his estranged daughter Kate (Ella Purnell), Ward takes on the challenge, assembling a ragtag team of experts for the heist.”
Another Hit Netflix Original?
Netflix brought added prestige to their original movie lineup after releasing Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, last year. Judging from the above trailer, Batista’s Army of the Dead could be just as big a hit.
The Animal might have put himself under some pressure after making some pretty negative remarks about The Rock’s acting career. We imagine The Great One will be keeping an eye on his former colleague’s latest film as a result.
