Kawhi Leonard leads Clippers in sweep of Thunder – The Athletic


Matinee games have been strange for the Clippers going back to last January.

The first weekend of 2020 featured back-to-back early starts for the Clippers, with Montrezl Harrell suggesting that the Clippers were “not a great team” in between a 140-114 loss to the Grizzlies and a close 135-132 win against the woebegone Knicks.

When the Clippers came back from the All-Star break, they hosted Sacramento on a Saturday afternoon. After the Kings won 112-103, Kawhi Leonard implored his team to play better. “The time is now,” he said.

Right before the hiatus in March, the Clippers lost 112-103 to the Lakers in a 12:30 p.m. local start on a Sunday. And even the postseason featured unfortunate matinee performances that saw the Clippers blow a 21-point lead in Game 4 to the Mavericks (you may recall how that one ended) and lose 111-98 in Game 6 to the Nuggets despite leading by as many as 19 points.
