KUWTK’s Kylie Jenner is being accused of exploiting workers that make her popular fashion products, such as the Kendall + Kylie clothing line.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians starlet, Kylie Jenner is being accused of exploiting workers that make her popular fashion products, such as the Kendall + Kylie clothing line. People are furious that Kylie is not paying the people who contributed to her success, especially considering the amount of money she supposedly possesses.
This has not been a great month for the youngest Keeping Up with the Kardashians star. This month she’s being accused of exploitation and last month she was accused of fabricating her billionaire status. Global Brands Group, the company that owns and markets the Kendall + Kylie brand, allegedly cancelled their 2020 orders and is refusing to pay workers for the work completed up to March. People are lobbying for Kylie to pay the workers suffering as a result of this order cancellation. It’s only fair as those workers did nearly three months of work and deserve to get paid.

According to Indy, Global Brands Group is the company that owns the clothing lines that are marketed under Kylie’s name. They have reportedly left thousands of garment workers without pay around the globe. Global Brands Group and Kylie aren’t the only ones to blame. Kendall Jenner and P Diddy also have clothing lines with Global Brands Group. In addition, Cardi B has also been accused of unethical behaviour through her partnership with Fashion Nova. Apparently the Fashion Nova brand has left 50,000 women in Los Angeles without income or government assistance due to their immigration status.
The party responsible for bringing this issue to light is Remake, a non-profit organization. They are lobbying to make brands like Global Brands Group and Fashion Nova, and the celebrities that represent them, responsible for their actions. Rick Darling, the CEO of Global Brands Group, stated that they have no choice but to cancel the orders without liability as a result of the current state of the world. Remake begs to differ, they say that the organization does have a choice and they’re simply choosing not to continue with the contracts or pay the workers.
While all of these recent accusations may be hard on Kylie Jenner, she needs to realize that with great power comes great responsibility. It’s no doubt that Kylie is a public figure and has a lot of influence, but it makes her fame questionable when she turns a profit and doesn’t pay her workers. Of course, she’s not the only guilty one, the businesses behind the brands should be accountable too. But if the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star were to do the right thing by paying the workers, it would create a precedent for other celebrities and businesses.
